One of the many ways I get to share simple principles is through an Informational Seminar presentation. The seminar is usually about one hour long and hosted at club meetings, fitness centers, business (health food, running, outdoor) retailers and corporations. The seminar introduces the key principles, provides demonstrations and then guides participants through a few simple standing posture exercises so they can
Probably the number one goal I hear from participants is “I want to enjoy running again”. About a week ago I conducted a Half Day ChiRunning clinic to a group ranging from beginners to experienced runners. Here is an email I received from a participant a few days after the clinic:
“Dear David,
I took your Chi running seminar this past Saturday and fell in love with it! I loved everything about it. I love how
This past Saturday I conducted a Half Day (4 hr) ChiRunning clinic. The group was very engaged and did very well implementing the principles.
A Half Day Clinic breaks the ChiRunning position and motion down into pieces and then pulls them together into full motion. The objective is to *feel* the individual parts and any tendencies so individual adjustments are available all day long; sitting, standing, walking and running. The more you practice, the more
Yesterday I had a private lesson with a new runner who had just celebrated her one year running anniversary. She starting incorporating ChiRunning principles into her running last fall through a workshop with the author, Danny Dreyer.
We met to mainly address some discomfort in her hip; and to provide an overall review for her running/training approach. We addressed the injury first, and identified a few key adjustments. We also completed a video review to provide an overall
This past weekend I worked with a triathlete to address some past injuries and the fear of injury. It is not just what happens but the fear of what might happen that can greatly affect our running experience. The private session had a number of ‘AHA’ moments related to how lifestyle, work environment and fitness can all dramatically effect posture and therefore technique. After a few subtle changes to focus, position (posture) and motion, an efficient and low stress running form
Fellow ChiRunning Instructor Bryan Huberty (Miami FL) won the Bahama Marathon this past weekend in 2:42.53. This is what he had to say:
“I just want to get this out there. I won the Bahamas Marathon yesterday and the other two I have won ([Miami] A1A in 2010 and Trailbreaker in 2009) thanks to ChiRunning.com. Reading the book, becoming an instructor and practicing it everyday in training AND racing has changed my life. It has made me an injury-free, relaxed and efficient runner who truly ENJOYS running pain-free. We believe in “no pain-no pain” NOT “no pain, no gain”. So, although the media wanted to talk about the Packers game and the conditions, they didn’t mention that my biggest BIG UP is to CHI RUNNING! I have Danny Dreyer and the whole ChiLiving crew to thank for that. This is marathon number 20 for me. Never had a major injury and
A whole year ago December 20th, 2010 I received this wonderful email. I kept in on my desktop as a great reminder of the people I get to meet and how simple ideas can be shared with great benefits. I have looked at it many times since then.
David, Thanks so much I am so excited. I also received an email from you the other day wishing us all a Happy Holiday. I must say after taking the Chi running course at the Wellness Center my running has
Recently I presented a four hour ChiRunning clinic in Central New Jersey. After the clinic a number of followup emails were sent to remind participants of the key principles and focuses to “practice” them. There was also a followup video review sent which highlighted each participant’s form with their “landing” position and their “loading” position.
On Monday this week, I presented the first of two ChiWalking clinics in a group fitness program at the Hunterdon Wellness Center in Clinton NJ. We spent about 2 hours learning and “feeling” the individual parts of the ChiWalking position and motion, then put the parts together for short distances of practice and finally provided specific feedback to each participant.
Yesterday I worked with a small group getting starting with running. ChiRunning was recommended to them and then found me online through my website. We spent about 2 hours learning and “feeling” the individual parts of the position and motion, then put the parts together for short distances of practice and finally provided specific feedback to each person.
Yesterday I worked with a runner just getting back to running a few weeks ago after taking many years off. He had read the ChiRunning and was implementing the principles on his own in preparation for a fall event. The short training session initially consisted of stationary (but active) drills and exercises which provide a really good body sense for the ChiRunning position and simple motion. Then we put the pieces together gradually into full motion, reinforced his tendencies with additional practice and finally made specific feedback notes on his key focuses for his “practice”. This AM he went for his first “r-u-n” after the session. Here is the text message I received
In March 2010 I posted the “ChiRunning® Simplified” video project that was many months in the making and then many, many hours putting it together. The goal of the video was to simplify the key ChiRunning concepts down into just a few minutes and put the potential difference into perspective with an analogy.
As of this week, the number of views is approaching 100,000. Many people have commented on the video, sent me email, linked to it and reposted it on their websites. And there is currently 182 likes to 6 dislikes on YouTube. Here are some of the
Brief post to share some feedback from a recent ChiRunning Multi-session Triathlon Training Program.
The feedback below comes from an amazing group of people I was privileged to work with during the Spring 2011 Hunterdon Wellness Triathlon Training Program in Clinton NJ. Everyday I am reminded what a great job I have and what wonderful people I get to meet. The feedback is part of an amazing coach’s gift from the participants: a scrapbook of program pictures and individual comments from
Brief post to share some feedback from a recent ChiRunning Clinic:
“I went to the gym today and did core and upper body for about an hour … then decided to practice for a mile on the track. You saw yesterday, my cadence is slower … I typically jog an 11 minute plus mile … can do 3 or 4 but the time has stayed high. Today I ran a mile on the track … in 9 minutes. Not a world record performance, but broke through a barrier quickly for me. I’m hooked.”
